MacGruber (2010)

MacGruber started out as a sketch taking the piss out off MacGyver. Now it has a movie…

So all I really want to say is honestly I mean I don’t know you but seriously don’t do it to yourself!

My Name is Bruce (2007)

Bruce Campbell hams it up in this deliberately B-Grade romp. Campbell plays Bruce Campbell a tragic version of himself, a burnt out alcoholic actor living in a trailer with the only film role prospects being D-Grade movie sequels. Bruce is kidnapped by Jeff (Taylor Sharpe) a teenage fan boy who believes that Bruce can save his hometown of Gold Lick and its inhabitants from a demon Guan-Di. The demon Jeff and his friends pissed off earlier when they disrespected a 19th century Chinese cemetery. The Demon wants revenge, Bruce wants a good time and Jeff wants to see his hero in action. Will they all be disappointed? Grace Thorsen is great as Jeffs unimpressed mum Kelly Graham. This film is sooo entertaining I really enjoyed it and watched it a few times. I’m a big Bruce Campbell fan and he’s really good in this, its a nice return to the over the top characters we loved him for eg his roles in Evil Dead, Bubba Ho-tep etc which are all payed homage to in the film. This is well worth watching – its cheesy, hammy and really funny.

Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire (2009)

Now here’s a fantasy that takes the piss out of the genre and itself and as a result is pretty entertaining. Despite this being a spoof I found it easier to take seriously then ‘Legend of the Seeker’. Krod Mandoon (Sean McGuire) is on a quest with his ‘Flaming Sword of Fire’ (its more fun if you sing that in a stupid deep voice) to avenge the death of his leader General Arcadius (Roger Allam) having failed in his rescue attempt he manages only to save Arcadius’ true love his gay partner Bruce (well played by Marques Ray). Krod battles against his arch enemy Chancellor Dongolor hammed up nicely by Matt Lucas from Little Britain. Accompanying Krod is his rag tag crew Zelzelryck (Kevin Hart) the ever inept wizard who can’t cast spells, shoot lightening, make people invisible or do anything helpful ever like proper wizards. Eye candy is supplied by India de Beaufort who plays Aneka, Krods pagan girlfriend. Loquasto (Steve Spiers) is hilarious and sees no problem with being Krods slave despite Krods ‘epic journey as a freedom fighter’. The show is ridden with innuendo, its cheesy but very entertaining.
