Hellcats (2010)

So it looks like a cross between Felicity and Glee.

Alyson Milcalka is Marty a pre law student, she loses her scholarship and has to find a new one and scores a cheeleading one. Sigh she’s so like sad she has to be a cheerleader cos she like hates how it objectifies women and all that, like until episode two.

Its not to bitchy so far but there are teenaged girl characters involved so we’ll see how long that lasts.

The show is ok. Its something you could watch with your mum, or your teenage daughter. It will probably capture the 40 year old women audience.

The most exciting bit was where we saw a glimpse of Jeremy Wong the brother of So You Think You Can Dance Season six contestant Alex Wong.

Alyson is an actress, singer-songwriter, guitarist, and pianist

Americas Best Dance Crew (ABDC) (2009)

This is a dance show featuring dance crews. The crews dance to their own routines adding in challenges including dance moves or styles. Like So You Think You Can Dance, theres a bottom two and a crew gets sent home each episode.

The show is produced by American Idol judge Randy Jackson, who admitted to using the show as a platform for his banner making company! Hows that for marketing?

The show is hosted by Mario Lopez and Layla Kayleigh. I watched season three the judges were hip-hop artist and dancer Lil Mama, former *NSYNC member JC Chasez and Hip-hop choreographer Shane Sparks. Sparks is later replaced by Omarion.

The show is good, you get to see some crazy stuff, unlike SYTYCD they’re allowed to climb the rigging on the side of the stage. Season three is great as it has Quest Crew with Hoc and DominHokuto “Hok” Konishi, Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval who us Aussies will recognize from SYTYCD. Its really enjoyable you get to see all kinds of different dance styles.

So You Think You Can Dance (Australia) Season 1

This show is a really tragic counterpart to the American version, and it’s not the fault of the dancers.  It took until half way through the series for them to get ‘world class’ choreographers

from other countries to create some challenging dynamic routines for the dancers.  The staging, lighting, music etc is all B Grade but the biggest disapointment by far is the camera work.  No matter where the dancers are on the stage or what they’re doing, the camera is always in the wrong place to capture the action well.  I know it has a smaller budget but come on!  I’ve tried to support the Australian version – who doesn’t want aussie dancers to get a go, but the show is downright frustrating to watch.  One episode the camera moved around with so much ferocity I thought the cameraman was having an epileptic fit.  So now you know moving the camera around like your on acid doesn’t equal better footage.

Lets hope they get choreographers from around the world, and a trained camera man for the next season… if it lasts that long.

Edited to say – suprise surprise it did get another season and they did get better choreographers.
