Dr Horrible

Joss Whedons brainchild Dr Horrible was a glimmer in his eye when the writers strike in the US was going strong.  He wanted to prove that you could write, create and distribute something for free over the internet and be successful without any studio interference.  He was proved right whenthe release of Dr Horrible had so many downloads (at one point 200, 000 hits per hour) their site crashed
several times.  It was the number one downloaded tv season
for three weeks running.

When Nathan Filion (Firefly) got the call from Joss his immediate answer was “Yes, whatever it is yes”, and so began his journey as Captain Hammer the super cheesy superhero.  Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) stepped into the boots of Dr Horrible, an ambitious bad guy with no time for posers in parkers who longs to become a member of the evil league of evil.  Felicia Day (Buffy TV show, The Guild) is superb as Penny the beautiful girl with a heart for good.

This is by far the best musical i’ve seen in a long time.  It’s brilliant.  You will be singing the songs in your head for weeks.  Its since been released on dvd.

The Guild

The Guild is a fantastic web blog that I have spent hours laughing at.  Written by and starrring Felicia Day (see her in Buffy the tv show or Dr Horrible).  The guild is about a group of socially challenged online gamers.  They do battle, divide loot and spend all their time together on quests.  Everything is fine until one day the group meets in the real world.  This is clever, refreshing and thoroughly entertaining.
Watch it on youtube.

Nerd fact:  Day has a level 66 Warlock and level 63 Priest!

Arj and Poopy

Posted in Web Show with tags on June 8, 2009 by Eskimo

Arj Barker the comedian has made a series of short animated cartoons.  Yay!  You’ll have to go to http://www.arjbarker.com to see them and they are well worth it.  The cartoons featuring Arj and his pet cat Poopy are fresh, funny and very entertaining.  There are comments about culture, values, Christmas and the everyday dilemmas a guy and his cat face.  The Story arcs range from being attacked by a gang of Tai Chi Ninjas, Arj falling madly in love, what happens to Christmas trees after Christmas and Poopy’s passion for making paper chains.  I watched one of these at the end of his comedy dvd ‘Arj Barker Live’ and was addicted.  I watched all the Arj and Poopy episodes trying not to choke on my snacks while laughing.  If you dont have time to watch them all watch the Christmas one, its my favourite!
