Top 4 Male Characters – You Just Gotta Love

Posted in Top 5's, 10's & 20's on August 21, 2009 by Eskimo

Jane – Firefly (2002)
Who can resist Jane? Its not often Joss Whedon gets it wrong, he wrote Jane to be the bastard character no one liked only to discover instead Jane became a fan fave. Janes crankines, love of firepower and unswerving belief that force is best in every situation was endearing. Whedon had to concede and found ways to allow Jane to be the character fans wanted him to be – Who could forget the scene with Jane proudly wearing the dorky beanie knitted by his mum!

Classic Jane Moment:
Jane offering Mal a trade – Vera his most precious gun in his whole collection – for Mals new found wife.
When Jane and Mal first met on opposite sides of a heist and quickly turning on his own team when Mal proposes a better deal – more money and not having to share a room.

Devon ‘Awesome’ – Chuck (2007)
Duh because he’s awsome! He’s one of those good at everything people that normally everyone can’t stand, but there’s something about Devon. You have to love him for his, well, awesomeness.

Orignally Awesome’s character was an undercover russian spy who would be found out by the end of season 2, but fans wouldn’t have gone for it. Chuck wouldn’t be the same without Awesome.

Bert ‘Sock’ Wysocki – Reaper (2007)
Whats not to love about Sock? He sleeps on shelves instead of stacking them, steals from his employer, has won ‘dog of the month’ (award for worst sales person) nine times and abused ‘work bench’ materials to make a mechanical bull. We love his slacker nature and loyalty to his best bud Sam, whose he’s saved from demons a few times.

Classic Sock Moments:
Sigh there are sooo many, who could forget when he wrapped his hand in duct tape (Tape Hand), his habit of smashing workbench stuff hulk style when mad at Ted, the time he took the snow globe vessel complete with demon to a quiz night, his quirky way of getting privacy in the toilet by staring at the guy at the urinal next to him and slurring, “Stop staring at my junk”.

Morgan – Chuck (2007)
He makes socially challenged look good! Morgan is such a scream to watch, he’s needy, he’s awkward, he’s never met a social boundary he didn’t cross. With his Awesome makeover, hot girlfriend Anna, life is looking good for Morgan.

Classic Morgan Moment:
Chuck – ‘Hey what are you doing here buddy’?
Morgan – ‘We had plans tonight’.
Chuck – ‘Are you sure, cos I was going on a date with Sarah tonight’.
Morgan – ‘Yeah i’m sure, you said see you later, so here I am, later, took you at your word’.

Top 5 Sci Fi TV Shows

Posted in Top 5's, 10's & 20's with tags , , , on August 20, 2009 by Eskimo

Fringe (2008) – Sci Fi cop crossover – the new X-Files with more plot and better acting.

Firefly (2002)- Created by Joss Whedon, a crew on a run down space ship are running out of universe to be naughty in.

Dollhouse (2009) – Human ‘blanks’ are implanted with information and skills required to complete missions and are then wiped again. Another Joss Whedon creation, which went from meh to freakin A once the network stopped interfering. Check out episode 0 on the dvd – its episode one as Joss originally envisioned it.

The X Files (1993) – The Original – FBI agents Mulder and Scully investigate government conspiracies, paranormal activities and unsolved crimes.

Star Trek – Just kidding!

Veronica Mars (2004) – You have to love this show! Veronica teenage detective sounds cliched but the acting, plot and characters made it a brilliant show.
Witchblade (2001) – Balsy female cop finds a mysterious ancient weapon and wields it well.
Hustle (2004) – English show about a group of con artists.
Psych (2006) – A guy fakes being psychic and scores a job helping the cops solve crimes, very funny and for the whole family.
CSI (2000) – The original one was great when it first started, its wearing a bit now, but I felt it should still be honored.
